About Nullifire

Nullifire has been at the forefront of the development of intumescent fire protection systems for over 30 years.

The company was established in 1973 in response to the introduction of the Fire Precaution Acts for hotels and guesthouses in 1971. Over the course of the following 10 years Nullifire introduced a range of intumescent technologies for the fire protection of both timber and steel structures. In addition, Nullifire was instrumental in the development of fire protection solutions for service penetrations and construction movement joints.

Innovative developments for the improvement of fire safety have been accompanied by a longstanding commitment to environmental responsibility. Nullifire S607 was the first water based intumescent system of its type, and has changed the face of intumescent industry.

Corporate acquisition
In July 1998 Nullifire was acquired by RPM Inc, a world leader in specialist coatings technology. RPM has over 7,900 employees, with 68 manufacturing plants located in 17 countries. The Group serves both industry and consumers with a vast array of products. The turnover for the Group in 2001 was circa $2.01 billion, of which 55% was generated through industrial worldwide sales, the remainder by branded consumer goods sold primarily in North America.

During this period the Nullifire Group was associated with Carboline (a specialist anti-corrosive coatings company) and the Coventry office became RPM’s international centre for intumescent technology.

The changing face of the building and construction industry
In 2000 the organisation was restructured to focus on core competencies. As a result, Nullifire now forms part of the Tremco Group of companies within RPM.

The Tremco Group has over 70 years of experience providing specialist solutions in sealants, coatings and adhesives for the building and construction industries. The company has established an enviable reputation for technical innovation, reliability and exceptional product quality.

Like Nullifire, Tremco is built on technical excellence and service. Both companies offer total system solutions that are specified by architects, surveyors and engineers.

During the first 18 months of the partnership Tremco has invested over £1 million in R&D, improved and extended production facilities at the Tremco / Nullifire manufacturing plant at Wigan, and a new computer management system at Nullifire’s Coventry Headquarters.

This major investment program combined with the restructuring and strengthening of Sales, Marketing and Operations teams, equips us to take the company forward, confidently maintaining the Nullifire tradition of innovation for the protection of property and people.
