A brief history

Nullifire is the leading developer of intumescent fire protective coatings in the UK and Europe, and has pioneered the use of this technology for over 30 years to offer trusted, life-saving solutions to protect steel structures and timber surfaces; service penetrations; and construction movement joints.

The company was established in 1973 in response to the introduction of the Fire Precaution Acts for hotels and guesthouses in 1971. Over the course of the following 10 years Nullifire introduced a range of intumescent technologies for the fire protection of both timber and steel structures. In addition, Nullifire was instrumental in the development of fire protection solutions for service penetrations and construction movement joints.

Innovative developments for the improvement of fire safety have been accompanied by a longstanding commitment to environmental responsibility. Nullifire S607 was the first water based intumescent system of its type, and has changed the face of intumescent industry, and began the evolution of the S707 range of coatings currently being sold around the World today.

Following the acquisition by RPM in 1988; Nullifire now forms the passive fire protection business within the Tremco illbuck Group of companies, and today supply’s passive fire protection solutions to over 40 different countries World Wide.
