Fire Stopping | Construction Joints and Service Penetrations
Nullifire’s fire stopping solutions have been designed to maintain building compartmentation in a fire situation. This range of fire stopping products can provide from 30 to 240 minutes fire rated solutions for construction movement joints and service penetrations.
Approved document B (2000 edition) of the Building Regulations outlines the need for large buildings to be divided into compartments, and specifies the level of fire performance the compartment walls and floors need to achieve.
In any building the route of the services (such as plastic and metallic water pipes, cabling, and ventilation ducting etc), can penetrate the compartment walls and floors. At the point the services penetrate the compartment, the compartment must maintain the specified level of fire performance. This is done by the use of Fire Stopping systems in the form of pipe closers, fire rated mastics, and mineral fibre batts.
Also buildings are designed with gaps to allow for building movement. These are generally in compartment walls and floors, and therefore must maintain the specified level of fire performance, whilst allowing for required movement. This can be achieved using flexible fire rated movement joints, in the form of intumescent strips and fire rated mastics.
