Protecting natural beauty
Walls and ceilings lined with timber are an attractive option for interior design. The Nullifire System W+ range of intumescent coatings enables this natural beauty to show through while providing protection against flame-spread in the event of fire.
Where is System W+ Used?
System W+ is typically applied direct to site-installed timber-lined walls and ceilings that require either a Class 1 or Class 0 rating (Euroclass B-s1, d0). It should not be used in areas of high humidity, heat sources or on surfaces where significant physical wear is likely, such as floors, stair treads, handrails and work surfaces.
Clear, White or Pigmented Finish?
By offering both clear and pigmented options, System W+ allows specifiers full choice of final appearance:
- System W+ Clear: The Clear system is available in satin finish
- System W+ White: The White system is available in satin finish
- System W: The pigmented option offers a full range of BS 4800 colours
High Flame Retardant Content
Each system consists of a basecoat and top seal. The products have a high flame retardant content that ensures low flammability. In the event of a fire, the dried film expands to many times the original film thickness. This creates an insulating carbonaceous char that protects the underlying wood from heat build-up and delays flame-attack.
Two coat system:
- First coat: System W+ Basecoat
- Second coat: System W Top Seal
Independently Tested
System W+ is tested for its reaction to fire, which relates to the combustibility of the material, and its contribution to the fire growth rather than its ability to resist the passage of fire (Fire Resistance).
System W+ has been fully tested and certified to EN 13823 and EN ISO 11925-2, and BS 476: Part 6/7 1987. (See N.B.2 for classification explanation)
How much product is needed?
The following tables give guidance:
N.B.1
Thickness range of substrates:
Testing carried out at independent IBMB-accredited laboratories.
No. of classification K-3098/429/08-MPA BS
Substrates of fire performance classes B,C and D: 12mm (min).
Substrates of fire performance classes A1 and A2: 6mm (min).
N.B.2
The European supplement published in 2002 is now incorporated within the latest version of Approved Document B (UK Building Regulations).
The Classification B-s3-d2 is an alternative to Class 0. Both the System W+ Clear, and System W+ White, are classified as B-s1-d0.
B = Euro Classification: EN 13823 (Single burning Item SBI) and EN ISO 11925-2 (Single Flame Ignitability SFI)
S1 = Smoke production: SMOGRA <30m2/s2 and TSP 600s <50m2
D0 = Flaming droplets: No flame droplets/particles in EN 13823 within 600s.
