The application of Nullifire SC804 is ensuring that eye-catching steelwork, which sets a contemporary scene in a prestigious London building, has the reassurance of premium fire protection.
One Portsoken Street, located in the heart of Aldgate, has recently undergone extensive refurbishment to create a dynamic environment, comprising of more than 230,000 square feet of office space and tenant amenities including a ground floor café and terraces on the upper floors.
As part of the refurbishment project, Nullifire SC804 intumescent coating has been specified to ensure that the internal steelwork, which creates a striking sense of space within the building, achieves 120 minutes fire protection.
Nullifier SC804 Intumescent Basecoat is a water-based, white, thin film intumescent coating for the protection of internal structural steelwork to C1 and C2 environments.
It gives optimised loadings for 90 minutes, and up to 120 minutes fire resistance - and can be top coated with a suitable product for decorative and durability purposes.
More than 20,000 square metres of the high-performance coating have been applied, in a 13-month long project carried out by the specialist contractor Castle Hill Fire Protection.
Chris Humphrey, Operations Director, of Castle Hill Fire Protection, who specialise in the installation of passive fire protection products and systems for major projects throughout the UK, said: “The project was to deliver 120 minutes fire protection using SC804.
“The end result puts safety first and looks visually stunning too.”
Gary Pullinger, Nullifire’s Sales Director, added: “This is the perfect project to highlight how SC804 can offer trusted safety performance, without any compromise on aesthetics.
“The coating is optimised to provide fire resistance to ‘I’ section beams, columns, hollow columns and hollow beams as well as cellular beams.
“SC804 is also backed-up with the support of our technical department, who understand the Building Regulations for steel frame structures and work closely with architects and specifiers to ensure safety and performance comes as standard.”
Part of the Construction Products Group (CPG) portfolio of brands, and previously available in the UK under the Firetherm name, Nullifire products are used extensively across built environments, with the benefit of highly knowledgeable technical support and service, stringent manufacturing processes and testing regimes, to ensure the ultimate peace of mind in the specification process.
SC804 also features Optifire+ technology to provide traceability as standard across this and other products in Nullifire’s renowned intumescent steel coatings range.
This unique pigment, which is impossible to manipulate, offers a guaranteed source of quality to deliver new levels of assurance to architects, main contractors and specifiers, and acts as an incentive to ensure that products are used and applied correctly.
